Our food system is constantly evolving
Abstract
This educational infographic traces the 10,000-year transformation of global food systems, examining how climate, technology, policy, and health concerns have shaped agricultural production, food processing, and nutrition. The visualization maps key historical milestones starting at the Neolithic Revolution and domestication through mechanization and the Green Revolution to today's focus on sustainability and alternative proteins. It highlights the fundamental shift from historical challenges (e.g. malnutrition, infectious diseases) to contemporary issues (e.g. hidden hunger, metabolic syndrome, climate impact). The infographic critically examines the "balancing act" between economic profit, human health, and environmental/animal welfare across historical periods, demonstrating how technological innovations brought both benefits (food security, safety) and unintended consequences (biodiversity loss, diet-related diseases).
