Differences in The Effects of Weight Training in The Triple S and Stability 3 Training Methods to Improve Muscle Strength and Endurance in Grade 5 Elementary School Students
Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of weight training with the Triple S and Stability 3 methods on improving muscle fitness in fifth-grade elementary school students, and to compare the improvement in muscle fitness between the two training methods. The study used a quasi-experimental method with a pretest–posttest group design. The subjects of the study were 60 fifthgrade elementary school students who were divided into two groups, namely the Stability 3 training group (n = 31) and the Triple S training group (n = 29). The data collection instrument was a muscle fitness test covering muscle strength and endurance, with a total muscle fitness score obtained from the results of pretest and posttest measurements. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, prerequisite tests (normality and homogeneity tests), and two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results showed that both training methods had a positive effect on improving students' muscle fitness. The Stability 3 group experienced an increase in average scores from 75.74 ± 16.10 to 94.97 ± 19.96 with a gain value of 19.23 ± 15.52, while the Triple S group experienced an increase from 63.00 ± 13.72 to 81.45 ± 17.81 with a gain value of 18.45 ± 10.05. ANOVA results showed a significant effect of time on muscle fitness (F = 122.627; p < 0.05), as well as a significant difference between exercise groups (F = 10.385; p = 0.002). However, no significant interaction was found between time and exercise group (p > 0.05). Based on these results, it can be concluded that weight training with the Triple S and Stability 3 methods are both effective in increasing the muscle fitness of fifth grade elementary school students, with the Stability 3 method showing a higher increase in overall muscle fitness than the Triple S method.
