Diversity of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants in Abheda Biological Park, Kota, Rajasthan
Abstract
Abheda Biological Park (ABP), located in Kota district of Rajasthan, harbours a significant diversity of medicinal and aromatic plant species within a semi-arid ecosystem. The present work documents 24 important medicinal and aromatic plant species recorded from the park, representing herbs, shrubs, climbers, and trees traditionally used in indigenous healthcare systems such as Ayurveda and folk medicine. These plants are known for their therapeutic applications in digestive disorders, respiratory ailments, skin diseases, metabolic disorders, immune enhancement, and general health care, along with their aromatic and ethnobotanical importance. The compilation highlights the ecological and conservation value of medicinal and aromatic plants in maintaining ecosystem health, supporting biodiversity conservation, and promoting environmental education. Emphasis is also placed on the role of protected areas like Abheda Biological Park in the in-situ conservation of plant genetic resources and the sustainable use of traditional knowledge. This documentation serves as a baseline reference for researchers, forest managers, students, and conservation practitioners, and contributes to awareness and future research on medicinal plant conservation in Rajasthan.
