Quantum Coherence Ethics
Abstract
This paper introduces the Quantum Canon Equation (QCE), a formal ethical framework grounded in the Many-Worlds Interpretation (MWI) of quantum mechanics. If MWI is correct, every quantum event generates real branching outcomes, each containing conscious observers capable of suffering. Standard ethical theories fail to account for this branching structure, treating moral weight as confined to a single observed outcome. QCE addresses this gap by formalizing moral weight as a function of suffering density across branches, weighted by observer count and branching probability. The framework introduces a canonical threshold below which actions are ethically prohibited across all branches — not as subjective preference, but as a formal constraint derived from the physical structure of reality. The paper presents the core formalism, defines key variables, and explores implications for moral philosophy, decision theory, and the foundations of quantum mechanics. QCE proposes that if the universe branches, ethics must branch with it.
