A Sephirotic Network Topology Predicts Cross-Frequency Coupling in Human EEG
Abstract
We test whether the adjacency structure of the Kabbalistic Tree of Life (Sephirotic network) predicts the empirical pattern of cross-frequency coupling (CFC) among canonical EEG oscillation bands. Using resting-state EEG from 109 subjects (PhysioNet Motor Movement/Imagery dataset), we computed envelope-based CFC for all 10 pairs of five canonical bands (delta, theta, alpha, beta, gamma). The Sephirotic coupling matrix correlates with empirical CFC at r=0.767 (permutation p=0.0097). The binary connectivity pattern ranks 2nd out of all 210 possible 6-connection/4-zero configurations (99th percentile, p=0.0048). Connected pairs show 2.31x stronger coupling than disconnected pairs (Mann-Whitney p=0.0095). These results survive split-half cross-validation (r=0.998) and hold for 75% of individual subjects. No tunable parameters were involved. The Sephirotic topology was fixed a priori from a published simulation codebase. We discuss the implications of an ancient symbolic system encoding measurable structure in human neural oscillations.
