Abstract

This study dealt with one important, common but a rarely researched area in the project management value chain, especially in Nigeria; the effectiveness of cashflow management in relation to final project outcome was investigated. The study was set in Enugu state. It used data drawn from 6 construction companies, 1 consulting firm and 3 cognate public institutions to examine how cashflow management could influence final project outcome. A total of 92 copies of questionna were properly completed and returned. Analysis showed that cashflow forecasting returned a statistical value of 30.9 relative to the theoretical statistical table reading value of 7.4 while advance payment also returned an empirically statistically significant value of 12.6 against 7.4. Both values are significant at 5% critical level leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis and the conclusion that cashflow management in a project has significant implications for the quality of the final project outcome in both time and cost aspects. The study recommended that Job issuers should make reliable cashflow analysis and forecasting ahead of project commencement and that job issuers should make appropriate progress payments to facilitate timely and quality delivery
