Energy Consumption Structure in Thailand and Community Impacts
Abstract
This article analyzes the structure of energy consumption in Thailand using energy data from 2022–2023 in order to explain the relationship between major economic sectors and national energy use. The analysis indicates that the transportation sector is the largest energy consumer in Thailand, particularly road transportation, which accounts for more than 99 percent of energy use within the transport sector. Most fuel consumption in Thailand is associated with private mobility and freight logistics, while the agricultural sector represents only a small share of total energy consumption. Thailand maintains approximately sixty days of petroleum reserves, which provides a relatively stable level of short-term energy security compared with several countries in the ASEAN region. The article argues that transportation patterns and mobility behavior play a crucial role in shaping the national energy structure and influence community-level impacts and long-term energy security.
