Abstract

Intelligence and entropy stand in inverse operational symmetry. This paper formalises that relationship as the physical foundation of wealth creation, measurement, and attribution. Beginning from the Second Law of Thermodynamics and the Principle of Least Action, wealth is defined as the directed reduction of local entropy that produces a consumable low-entropy state satisfying a need. The magnitude of this productive act is measured as economic action: the time integral of directed configuration energy during the bounded interval of production. This measure is expressed in SI units of action and normalised to a human scale through a fixed physical constant, the Qoin. The Qoin is not a currency, medium of exchange, or transferable token; it is a measurement unit applied to productive acts and recorded in an individual ledger. Creation events add Qoin to the creator’s ledger, while consumption events subtract the same magnitude, closing the thermodynamic cycle. Attribution follows from the topology of directed action itself. The source of a productive act is defined as the locus of active directed configuration whose removal annihilates the act rather than merely altering feasibility conditions. Because the ledger records the act directly as its physical measure, attribution to any non-source would assign the measurement of an event to a locus where the event did not occur, rendering such attribution physically incoherent. Two conservation symmetries follow. Conservation of Value pairs wealth creation with wealth consumption. Conservation of Order identifies the energetic requirement for maintaining ordered structures against entropic decay. Their joint operation defines civilisational growth as a measurable physical quantity expressed in the civilisation integral . Within this framework the Qoin ledger records productive acts as physical measurements rather than financial balances. The operational architecture that follows from this foundation — including the marketplace, the fiat boundary condition, and twelve derivative functions — is developed in a companion paper. Together these principles establish a physical account of wealth creation, measurement, and attribution grounded entirely in thermodynamic law. A summary of all formal statements is provided in the Appendix.
