Abstract

Abstract The article presents a theoretical analysis of the phenomenon of metacognitive warfare as a component of hybrid confrontation in the context of contemporary turbulent processes. It is substantiated that the transformation of warfare strategies in the 21st century has shifted the focus from the physical battlefield to the sphere of consciousness, worldview, and value orientations of the individual. Hybrid warfare is considered as a multidimensional system of influences in which the cognitive component acquires strategic significance. It is determined that metacognitive warfare is aimed not only at the dissemination of information or disinformation, but primarily at the modification of thinking processes, mechanisms of reflection, and decision-making.The correlation between the concepts of “cognition” and “metacognition” is analyzed, and their significance for understanding the psychological mechanisms of influence is outlined. It is demonstrated that the use of cognitive distortions, manipulative strategies, digital technologies, and artificial intelligence tools creates conditions for achieving cognitive superiority in confrontation. In this context, the brain appears simultaneously as a target and an instrument of struggle. Special attention is paid to the role of “hard” cognitive sciences, NBIC convergence, and big data analytics in the development of new forms of psychological impact. It is argued that metacognitive warfare has a psychological-social-technical nature and functions as a form of influence warfare using cyber means. Key threats to the cognitive security of individuals and society are identified, including the destabilization of decision-making processes, the erosion of trust, and the undermining of mental resilience. The necessity of developing preventive strategies, enhancing metacognitive competence, and strengthening resistance to manipulative influences is emphasized. It is concluded that understanding the psychological dimensions of metacognitive warfare is a prerequisite for ensuring security in conditions of global turbulence and digital interdependence of the modern world.
