MMCap EuroSec26 Artifact
Abstract
MMCap Linux Prototype/Evaluation This directory contains the full system installation used in the evaluation of the Linux prototype for the MMCap paper. ./sources/ contains the source for the user space part of the MMCap demo. run.sh is available in the kexec system as mmcap-demo and is the entry point for the demo/evaluation. The sources for the kernel(/module) currently await publication of a related paper. Extract the TAR / move the directory with this README on/to any x86_64 Linux system and run ./run.sh to reboot into the kexec system and run the demo/evaluation. (The kexec system lives entirely in volatile memory and does not touch any disks or other persistent storage at all – a simple reboot (or power cycling) is enough to boot the regular OS again.) If the device can get its network config via DHCP or link-local IPv6 can be used, simply ./run.sh --reboot should be enough to load the new kernel and in-RAM file system and reboot. Otherwise, see ./run.sh --help (below). The local terminal may not show boot messages, but should eventually show a sh-5.3# prompt, and port 22/tcp opens. The local shell can be made a bit more usable by typing TERM=xterm-256color PATH=/run/current-system/sw/bin /run/current-system/sw/bin/bash. The intended way to access the system, though, is via SSH: ssh -i ./ssh-user-key -q -o StrictHostKeyChecking=no -o UserKnownHostsFile=/dev/null -o Port=22 -o User=root $remote (where $remote is the devices (DHCP) address and ssh-user-key is the SSH key included in this directory). For the EuroSec 2026 MMCap workshop paper we ran DO_PREPARE_BENCHMARK=1 iterations=10 mmcap-demo on an AMD EPYC 9554P and discarded rounds 0 and 1.
