Mapping drivers of life expectancy change in Asia from 1990 to 2023

This repository contains the code used for the analyses presented in the study "Mapping drivers of life expectancy change in Asia from 1990 to 2023" by the GBD 2023 Asia Life Expectancy Collaborators. The code includes scripts for data processing and visualization to support the analyses based on Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2023 data. The data used in this study were obtained from a combination of publicly available sources and restricted-access datasets. Public data are accessible through the Global Health Data Exchange (GHDx) (http://ghdx.healthdata.org/gbd-2023; accessed on 4 June 2025), while some datasets are subject to data use agreements and cannot be shared publicly. Due to these restrictions, raw data are not included in this repository. However, the code is provided to ensure transparency and reproducibility of the analytical procedures. All analyses were conducted using R version 4.1.2. Jiseung Kang, Hyeon Jin Kim, and Min Seo Kim contributed equally to this work; Jae Il Shin and Dong Keon Yon jointly supervised the study; Simon I. Hay served as the GBD Principal Investigator; and Nicholas Steel served as the senior author.
