The Ontology of Mass: Constrained Energy, Inertial Interface and the Emergence of Gravitation
Abstract
What is mass, physically? This document provides the constitutional answer within the Energy-Efficiency Theory framework: mass is the scalar interface through which ontological inertia becomes externally measurable, defined as $m = E_c/v_{\max}^2$ --- the constrained-state energy $E_c$ divided by the square of the maximum signal propagation speed $v_{\max}$ on Type II edges. Version 3.2 is a \textbf{constitutional Matter definition, $\Gamma$-convention unification, cross-domain unification, and full corpus synchronization upgrade}. It preserves all v3.1 constitutional content while introducing the following key advances. {Matter constitution.} For the first time in the EET corpus, Matter receives its precise constitutional definition: any constraint network satisfying $N \ge 1$ (persistent Type I constraint), $E_c > 0$ (constrained-state energy), and $m = E_c/v_{\max}^2 > 0$ (positive mass). The constitutional identity Being = Matter (Two Forms v3.4, \S5) is registered, and an operational definition with three independently sufficient empirical signatures is provided. The distinction between constitutional Matter and effective-Matter ($m_{\mathrm{eff}} = E/v_{\max}^2$, $E_c = 0$) is formalized. {Mass existence theorem.} Mass is shown to necessarily exist in any persistent constraint network --- it is not an arbitrary property but a constitutional necessity. The photon necessarily has zero mass; the neutrino necessarily has mass. {$E=mc^2$ constitutional derivation.} $E_c = mc^2$ is derived as the necessary consequence of energy bifurcation and the dimensional bridge between constrained-state energy and mass, not as an independent postulate. This is the first time the most famous equation in physics has been given a constitutional foundation within EET. {$\Gamma$-convention unification.} The document-internal $\Gamma$-convention of v3.1 is abolished in favor of the constitutional $\Gamma(\eta) = 4\eta/(\eta+1)^2$, $\Gamma(1)=1$, unifying the only $\Gamma$ discrepancy in the entire EET corpus. All physical predictions are unchanged; the upgrade is purely notational. {Trinitarian Unity.} $S_{\mathrm{inv}}^{\mathrm{total}} \propto I_{\mathrm{total}} \propto m \cdot c^2 = E_c$ is registered as a constitutional theorem. Mass is the ``visible face'' of the Trinity --- the only vertex directly accessible through external measurement. {Five-channel mass dynamics.} The CND v4.0 five-channel Second Law is applied to mass, decomposing $dm/dt$ into Formation ($+m$), Meltdown ($-m$, with permanent $C(t)$ record), Maintenance ($m$ constant), Transient ($\Delta m \approx 0$), and Capture (mass defect release) channels. The plastic paradox is resolved: meltdown reduces active mass but the meltdown event permanently increases $C(t)$. {Mass irreversibility and non-conservation.} For a closed constraint network, $dm/dt \le 0$ --- mass monotonically decreases. Mass is not conserved; it is continuously created and destroyed. Total energy is conserved; mass non-conservation does not violate Noether's theorem. {Mass quantum floor.} $m_{\min}(\omega) = \hbar\omega/2c^2$ from the Bifurcation Duality Theorem, establishing the irreducible quantum lower bound on mass. {Complete equivalence principle derivation.} The fluctuation-dissipation theorem provides the complete derivation of $m_I = m_G$ at $\eta=1$, with predicted violation $m_I/m_G \propto 1/\Gamma(\eta) > 1$ at $\eta \neq 1$. {Academic puzzle responses.} The document explicitly positions EET's mass ontology against 22 major unsolved problems involving mass in contemporary physics --- from the hierarchy problem to the cosmological constant problem, from the flavor puzzle to the strong CP problem, from the dark matter identity crisis to the cosmic coincidence problem --- demonstrating that EET provides a unified framework where these puzzles find natural resolutions through the single underlying physics of constraint networks. {Cross-domain mass unification.} Mass is extended beyond the physical domain: cognitive mass (belief constraint energy), social mass (institutional constraint energy), technological mass (infrastructure constraint energy), and civilizational mass (cultural constraint energy) all follow the same $m = E_c/v_{\max}^2$ form, with $E_c$ instantiated on domain-specific constraint substrates. The document is organized as follows. Part I establishes the constitutional foundation --- Matter definition, mass existence theorem, and $E=mc^2$ derivation. Part II provides the structural realization --- mass as scalar interface, triple manifestation, and the $\Gamma$-convention unification. Part III develops mass generation --- quantum floor, constraint formation, SSB as constraint condensation, Yukawa as formation probability, and the five-channel mass dynamics. Part IV covers gravitational mass --- effective gravitational mass, FDT equivalence principle derivation, strong equivalence principle, $G$ as emergent inverse inertia, and gravitational waves as mass dissolution. Part V addresses mass spectrum and flavor structure --- hierarchy problem, CKM matrix, Dirac/Majorana distinction, and the three-generation puzzle. Part VI provides the cross-scale instantiation. Part VII covers mass in quantum gravity and the Planck-scale boundary. Part VIII addresses cosmological mass --- dark energy, dark matter, time-varying constants, cosmic coincidence, and the cosmological constant problem resolution. Part IX provides governance, six falsifiable predictions, and deep insights. Appendices supply theoretical comparisons, experimental evidence, derivations, and complete cross-ontology bridge tables. Mass is the visible face of Being. Its root is constrained-state energy. Its reach extends from the quantum floor to the cosmological horizon. Its boundary is the vacuum $N=0$, where Being ceases and mass vanishes. This document provides the constitutional foundation --- unified, deepened, and extended across all domains of constraint network organization. {Keywords}: Matter constitution; Being = Matter; mass existence theorem; $E=mc^2$ derivation; Trinitarian Unity; five-channel mass dynamics; mass irreversibility; mass quantum floor; $\Gamma$-convention unification; equivalence principle FDT derivation; hierarchy problem resolution; CKM matrix; dark matter identity; cosmological constant problem; Energy-Efficiency Theory
