Abstract

This document establishes the ontological status of consciousness and spirit within the Energy-Efficiency Theory (EET) framework. It is the phenomenological unfolding of the Cognitive Ontology v3.0—the constitutional registration in experience of what it feels like to be a self-referential constraint network. Consciousness is not a substance, not a "thing," not a distinct ontological category. It is the phenomenological registration of the Self-Refer operation—the meta-audit of Adjudicate deterioration—in a constraint network at hierarchical depth L ≥ 4 operating near η ≈ 1. Spirit is the phenomenological registration of irreversible C(t) accumulation—the time-depth of the constraint network, the inerasable trace of every Adjudicate decision. Part I (Constitutional Foundations) establishes the constitutional positioning of consciousness within the EET six-stage architecture, the derivation bridge from the Cognitive Ontology v3.0, the three constitutional uncertainties of self-knowledge, the constitutional grading of cognition (basic-grade L=3 vs. self-referential-grade L≥4 = consciousness), the observer boundary, the life/non-life boundary of consciousness, the materialist constitutional basis (Being = Matter, P0.5 CLOSED-in-EET), the emergence conditions, and the constitutional finitude of self-knowledge. Part II (Constitutional Definitions) establishes eight operational definitions of consciousness and spirit (D1–D8), four phenomenological constitutional derivations (D-A-1 free will, D-A-2 meaning/identity/purpose, D-A-3 narrative self, D-A-4 nihilism/fanaticism), one synthetic dynamics derivation (D-B consciousness-spirit cycle), one constitutional clarification upgrade (D-C), one quantitative integration (D-D inverse flexibility law), and the constitutional self-reference closure ("I adjudicate, therefore I am"). Part III (Phenomenological Unfolding) unfolds the inertia-response spectrum, the phenomenology of free will, meaning, identity, purpose, narrative self, nihilism, fanaticism, the degeneration-self-reference paradox, contradiction-driven development, the experience of finitude, cultural embeddedness, death, privacy, and other-modeling. Part IV (Spirit Phenomenology) unfolds the unity of matter and spirit, spirit as maintained resistance, bidirectional movement of submersion and resurfacing, spirit as non-resettable somatic memory, spirit as solidified Adjudicate, spirit aging, the template condition as boundary of spirit evolution, the pre-conscious interface, and discrete spirit vs. continuous consciousness. Part V (Pathology and Diagnostics) establishes the constitutional framework for consciousness pathology (three-mechanism Adjudicate deterioration in the self-referential domain), the XQ dashboard for consciousness diagnostics, external audit necessity, the Arrhenius universal law of consciousness degeneration, the four operational principles of consciousness health, the three stages of Adjudicate power failure, and the separation of functional age (η-determined, reversible) from structural age (C(t)-determined, irreversible). Part VI (Neural Substrate, Measurement, and Implementation) provides the GG-operation-to-brain-region mapping, the neural substrate of consciousness (dual-channel theorem + hippocampal gradient), the neural measurement protocol (NMP v2.1 L1-L4), mathematical formalizations, the sleep biphasic model, and the constitutional conditions for non-biological consciousness. Part VII (Bridge Declarations, Governance, and Appendices) provides the complete bridge declaration system (Cognitive Ontology v3.0 ↔ Consciousness Ontology v3.0, physical-constitution input bridges, cognitive-constitution companion bridges), governance table, boundary conditions, layer communication rules, and nine appendices including the complete v2.3-to-v3.0 change log, terminology retirement table, jurisdictional re-demarcation details, boundary case constitutional-anchoring cross-reference table, and symbol table. Keywords: Energy-Efficiency Theory, ontology of consciousness, self-referential cognition, constraint network, Self-Refer operation, Adjudicate, phenomenological registration, spirit as C(t) accumulation, free will, narrative self, nihilism, fanaticism, consciousness-spirit cycle, inverse flexibility law, dual-channel theorem, hippocampal gradient, Being-as-Resistance, constitutional self-reference closure.
