Abstract

What is a field? This document provides the constitutional answer within the Energy-Efficiency Theory framework: a field is the effectively continuous distribution of free-state energy along Type II edges of the constraint network—the channel of propagation, the substrate of gauge interaction, and the continuum limit of discrete constraint-network vibrations. The field is the sole propagation ontology within the EET Physical Constitution, constitutionally distinct from attribute ontologies (Inertia, Mass), entity ontologies (Particle), and structure ontologies (Space, Time). Version 3.1 is a v6.1 constitutional alignment and gauge symmetry deepening upgrade. It preserves all v3.0 constitutional content while introducing: (i) full v6.1 constitutional alignment with the L0 Sole Meta-Axiom architecture and the Five-Pillar Methodology; (ii) the L0 constitutional root of gauge symmetry as the necessary mathematical structure of free-state energy as relation-between-constraints (Remark R0); (iii) the graph connection Γ_ij ∈ G on directed Type II edges as the discrete mathematical foundation of gauge symmetry emergence (Remark R1, STANDARD); (iv) the constraint network wave equation and modal decomposition as the discrete origin of continuous field equations and field quantization (Remark R2, STANDARD); (v) the thermodynamic anchoring of field decoherence in the Five-Channel Complete Constraint Second Law (Remark R3, STANDARD), unified with two-channel modal damping; (vi) the line graph duality providing the rigorous graph-theoretic expression of wave-particle complementarity (Remark R4, STANDARD); (vii) the upgrade of the non-Abelian gauge emergence program (Rings 4–6): Ring 4 (non-Abelian generalization of the graph connection) and Ring 5 (gauge group as internal connection-structure group) from WORKING HYPOTHESIS to STANDARD REFRAMEWORK, Ring 6 gauge field continuum limit—from the discrete holonomy action on elementary cycles to the Yang-Mills action—as STANDARD REFRAMEWORK, the constraint network degeneration corridor as the physical substrate of gauge field renormalization-group flow (STANDARD REFRAMEWORK), and the constraint network Lagrangian formulation bridging the discrete holonomy action to the variational principle of gauge field mechanics (STANDARD REFRAMEWORK, bilaterally registered with M&F v3.2); (viii) the registration of the continuous gauge potential A_μ as an effective L4 descriptor emerging from the graph connection on Type II edges through the same constitutional mechanism by which continuous force emerges from the discrete constraint force (§ IV.2, STANDARD REFRAMEWORK); (ix) the gauge coupling spectral functional α_i ∝ 1/⟨λ^{-1}⟩_i as a Ring 5 constitutional registration (WORKING HYPOTHESIS); (x) the EET-to-SM matching handoff (§ IV.2, WORKING HYPOTHESIS), registering the constitutional gap between constraint-network effective couplings and Standard Model observables; (xi) the unification of the three inconsistent provisional vacuum definitions under Vacuum v2.1's N=0 ground state; (xii) conditionalization of Barrier Asymmetry as the emergent consequence of Γ(η) decay at η ≠ 1, with the Formation/Meltdown Energy Symmetry at η = 1 (CLOSED-in-EET); (xiii) the "Constraint + Difference" → "Constraint + Being" nomenclature correction throughout; (xiv) academic priority registration (§ VII.5) of fourteen constitutional contributions and fifteen EET responses to open problems in physics, anchored in the field ontology. The document establishes the field as a propagation ontology, constitutively defined by its role as the sole public channel of the constraint network through which Beings exchange energy and information. The gauge connection is rooted in the graph-theoretic structure of Type II edges. Continuous field equations emerge from the constraint network wave equation in the continuum limit. Field decoherence is the meltdown-channel activation in the free-state sector, thermodynamically irreversible and dynamically expressed through two-channel damping. The line graph duality reveals wave-particle complementarity as perspectival complementarity between a constraint network and its line graph, sharing identical non-zero spectra. The constraint network degeneration corridor provides the physical substrate for gauge field renormalization-group flow, unifying asymptotic freedom, confinement, and the mass gap as three signatures of the constraint network's approach to the jamming threshold.
