Abstract

[Correction note, April 2026]: Phase boundaries updated following P34 v2.0 and P36 v2.0. M_max = 4.56 M☉ (was 2.33/4.26), M_crit = 12.0 M☉ (was 9.20). GW190814 (2.59 M☉) reclassified as massive neutron star candidate (below updated M_max). Statistical analysis of intermediate regime events in GWTC-4.0 remains valid but boundary definitions shift accordingly. See P36 v2.0 (doi:10.5281/zenodo.19858391). Physical mechanisms and conclusions unchanged. See P36 v2.0 (doi:10.5281/zenodo.19858391) for updated phase diagram. Definitive tests: NICER tidal deformability (2029), Einstein Telescope echoes (2035+).
