Inspiratory power-volume dissociation in WorldTour cyclists
Abstract
Peak inspiratory capacity can be characterised along two independent dimensions: flow-generating power (PIF) and mobilised volume (FIV). The dissociation between these dimensions within a constrained inspiratory time -- here termed inspiratory power-volume dissociation -- has never been documented as a measurable entity in elite athletes. This case series documents its existence in WorldTour cyclists and tracks its evolution following introduction of the Ventilatory Strategies Training (VST) protocol
