Multi-Physical Intelligences and Constraint-Driven Morphogenesis
Abstract
This work develops a unified theoretical framework for understanding intelligences as morphogenetic processes emerging under heterogeneous and incompatible constraints across multiple physical regimes. Rather than treating constraints as limiting conditions, the manuscript establishes them as generative operators that actively shape the space of possible configurations, trajectories, and structures. The central contribution lies in extending constraint-based theories of intelligence into a multi-physical domain, where quantum, thermodynamic, informational, and relativistic regimes coexist without reducibility. Within this setting, intelligences are not coherent systems evolving in a unified space, but dynamically maintained configurations arising from the interaction of incompatible constraints distributed across scales and levels. A key result is the introduction of structural incompleteness as a morphogenetic principle. Constraints that are not implemented (CQ*) are shown to play an active role in shaping the space of possibilities by defining regions that cannot stabilize, thus generating zones of indeterminacy and enabling the emergence of incomplete but viable forms. These forms are neither fully stable nor fully defined, and their persistence depends on a dynamic balance between present and absent constraints. The framework further demonstrates that structural incoherence is not a defect but a necessary condition for the existence of intelligences. Local coherence can be maintained only at the expense of global inconsistency, due to irreducible incompatibilities between constraints and physical regimes. This leads to a redefinition of intelligence as a process of maintaining viable configurations under distributed, evolving, and partially incompatible constraints. By integrating concepts from information theory, thermodynamics, and computational limits with a novel constraint-centered formalism, this work proposes a shift from system-based to morphogenetic descriptions of intelligence. It also establishes fundamental limits to reduction, optimization, and global control, while opening new directions toward meta-morphogenesis, post-physical intelligences, and architectures defined by structural impossibility. Overall, the manuscript contributes a new perspective in which intelligences are understood not as unified entities, but as emergent, unstable, and context-dependent forms shaped by the dynamic topology of constraints.
