Abstract

This foundational civics bridge artifact asks what must exist before civic measurement, preservation, comparison, or scoring can lawfully begin. The artifact argues that before a civic-legal object can be preserved, compared, or scored, it must already have become one determinate evaluative object. That object is not created by later preservation, later measurement, worksheet procedure, formula architecture, or ordinary reference. It must already exist before those later acts begin. The pre-metric evaluative object is the already-constituted object that later preservation and later measurement presuppose rather than create. This artifact builds on Before Civic Evaluation: The Diagnostic Foundation for a Calculus of Civics by sharpening the prior condition needed for later civic judgment: first one determinate evaluative object, then preservation of that object, then later comparison and score.
