Phenomenological Vacuum Electrodynamics
Abstract
This paper presents a phenomenological framework in which the vacuum is modeled as an emergent mesoscopic medium capable of dynamically coupling to electromagnetic fields through an effective pseudoscalar order parameter. The theory preserves gauge invariance and charge conservation while predicting experimentally testable effects including temperature-dependent vacuum birefringence, delayed electromagnetic emission in resonant cavities, and modified electromagnetic propagation under strong-field conditions. Rather than proposing a complete microscopic theory, the work is formulated as an effective field-theory approach intended to explore whether collective vacuum dynamics could produce observable laboratory-scale signatures accessible through high-Q cavity experiments and precision polarimetry.
