Abstract

Sustainable construction materials are receiving increasing attention as the construction industry seeks alternatives to conventional energy-intensive materials. Compressed earth bricks have emerged as a promising material due to their low environmental impact and availability of natural resources. This research investigates the structural performance of bio-healable interlocking compressed earth bricks designed to improve durability and crack resistance in masonry structures. The study examines the mechanical behavior of interlocking compressed earth bricks under compressive loading conditions. Laboratory testing evaluates compressive strength, crack propagation behavior, and structural stability of brick assemblies. The research also analyzes the influence of bio-healing mechanisms on micro-crack recovery within the masonry system. Experimental results indicate that bio-healable compressed earth bricks demonstrate improved durability and structural integrity compared with conventional earth masonry. The findings support the use of sustainable masonry materials in low-rise buildings and rural housing applications while maintaining structural safety requirements.
