INOV Model: Neurofunctional Integration and Visual Optimization A Conceptual Framework for Understanding the Visual System through Cortical Dynamics (Version 1.1)
Abstract
This document presents the original conceptual formulation of the INOV model (Neurofunctional Integration and Visual Optimization), a framework that understands the visual system as a dynamic and organized entity emerging from multi-level neurofunctional interactions. Rather than interpreting visual disorders as isolated deficits, the model conceptualizes them as adaptive functional configurations that reflect the system’s internal constraints. Within this perspective, reorganization is considered a central principle, and both pathological conditions and therapeutic interventions are understood as perturbations that modify system dynamics and enable transitions between functional states. The INOV model introduces key concepts such as functional states, perturbation, neurofunctional integration, and the distinction between effectiveness and efficiency. This approach provides a unified perspective linking cortical organization, neurophysiological activity, and clinical expression. This version (1.1) includes minor editorial refinements and formal clarifications of the originally disseminated preprint. The conceptual structure of the model remains unchanged.
