Abstract

This is Paper 4 in the Reset Dynamics series. **Title:** Zero Is Not Atomic — Structured Zero and the Inevitability of Rupture **Abstract:**We argue that zero is not an atomic object, but a structured family arising from semantic, algebraic, and indexed constraints. Under this perspective, division by zero cannot collapse into a unique result, but instead generates multiple structurally valid outcomes. We formalize this phenomenon as *rupture*, and show that it induces a generative preorder with intrinsic directionality and a minimal base element (ClosureUnit). This framework suggests a shift from viewing undefined operations as failures to interpreting them as sources of structural emergence. **Key contributions:**- Establishing the non-atomicity of zero (Structured Zero)- Defining rupture as a non-collapsible operation- Introducing a generative preorder induced by rupture- Identifying a minimal base element (ClosureUnit) This is v4.0, a hardened and terminologically anchored revision. Major changes: added formal framework (Π, σ), complete finite example, comparison to wheel/meadows/IEEE, normative terminology appendix, and welding interface. See Appendix B for full changelog. **Reset Dynamics Series Overview:**- **Paper 1:** Γ-Constrained Realizability and the Structural Inevitability of Non-Composability- **Paper 2:** Structural Closure and Generative Rupture- **Paper 3:** Division by Zero as Structural Rupture: Irreducibility, Branching, and Phase Transition- **Paper 4 (this work):** Zero Is Not Atomic — Structured Zero and the Inevitability of Rupture **Related Zenodo records:**- Paper 1: https://zenodo.org/records/19373151- Paper 2: https://zenodo.org/records/19609968- Paper 3: https://zenodo.org/records/19861236
