Abstract

In recent years, Statistics has increased its presence and use in different university training courses. In Psychology, this discipline is presented as an instrument that allows organizing, summarizing and extracting useful information from the different observations or experiments that are carried out in this area, for decision-making. Currently, the importance of attitudes towards Statistics is recognized as a factor that influences the teaching-learning process of this discipline. The objective of this article is to analyze the attitudes towards Statistics of university students of the Psychology degree. The methodological design is supported by a quantitative, exploratory study, and the application of a Likerttype scale. 237 students from two university psychology programs in Mexico participated, in one of them a mandatory course in Statistics is given, and in the other an optional one. The results suggest that students who study Statistics, on a mandatory basis, report a better attitude towards the usefulness of this discipline, associated with motivation towards knowledge.
