Mapping the Research Trends and Future Directions in Employee Well-Being in the Banking Sector: A Bibliometric Review
Abstract
This research project aims to systematically map the development, intellectual structure, contemporary research fronts, and emerging thematic directions of employee well-being research in the banking sector. Drawing on journal articles indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection, the study applies descriptive bibliometric analysis and three science-mapping techniques: co-citation analysis, bibliometric coupling, and co-word analysis. The project examines how research on employee well-being in banking has evolved over time, which theories and foundational studies have shaped the field, how current research fronts are organized, and what emerging topics are likely to guide future scholarship. Particular attention is given to themes such as job stress, burnout, work engagement, organizational support, leadership, work-life well-being, resilience, retention, and sustainable human resource management. The expected outcomes include a clearer understanding of the knowledge base of employee well-being research in banking, identification of major research clusters and future directions, and the development of conceptual, theoretical, and methodological implications for future studies. By focusing on the banking sector as a service-intensive, regulated, digitally transforming, and employee-facing work context, this study seeks to support future research agendas aimed at promoting employee well-being, mental health, decent work, safe working environments, and sustainable workplace practices.
