Visualization Scripts for: Parallelized LES model (PALM) outputs of shallow convection with different radiative transfer and land surface coupling configuration
Abstract
This repository provides a comprehensive suite of NCL (NCAR Command Language) scripts designed for the visualization and analysis of high-resolution atmospheric data. These scripts are specifically tailored for a previously published dataset: Parallelized LES model (PALM) outputs of shallow convection with different radiative transfer and land surface coupling configuration (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18539571). Workflow Architecture The scripts utilize a two-stage pipeline to decouple heavy data processing from aesthetic rendering, ensuring a streamlined and efficient user experience. Phase 1: Optimized Pre-processing (deal_pre_Fig*.ncl) The initial stage focuses on data extraction and post-processing. By running these scripts first, users can: Reduce Computational Overhead: Extract specific variables and dimensions required for plotting from the raw PALM output. Iterative Flexibility: Facilitate rapid adjustments to graphical parameters without the need to re-read massive original datasets. Phase 2: Production-Ready Visualization (Fig*.ncl) Once the pre-processed data is generated, the main plotting scripts can be executed. High Customizability: Easily adjust color maps, axis scales, and annotations to meet the requirements of peer-reviewed publications. Note that the number of deal_pre_Fig*.ncl corresponds to Fig*.ncl.
