BU91 AI Alignment Dual-Axis Reclassification under B_U From the Harm-Prevention Baseline to the Flourishing Topline
Abstract
BU91, “AI Alignment Dual-Axis Reclassification under B_U: From Harm-Prevention Baseline to Flourishing-Oriented Upper Line,” reclassifies contemporary AI alignment research through the B_U framework of single-universe boundary consistency. The file argues that AI alignment has entered a dual-axis structure. Negative Alignment establishes the harm-prevention baseline: robustness, controllability, interpretability, scalable supervision, formal assurance, and provable safety. Its task is to prevent high-amplification AI systems from breaking judgment boundaries, replacing constraint orders, or triggering civilizational self-consumption. Positive Alignment establishes the flourishing-oriented upper line: meaning, autonomy, human authenticity, close relationships, health, virtue, purpose, material stability, and long-term civilizational ascent. Its task is to move AI beyond risk containment and into the support of human flourishing. BU91 uses two source-axis anchors. The first is the civilizational ontology in which civilization is defined as the higher-order retention chain of total reality at human resolution: consciousness reads out reality vectors, meaning forms direction, action settles residue, and civilization advances through alignment with total reality. The second is the dual-order stability framework, which distinguishes execution order from constraint order and shows that instability arises when high-speed execution systems replace judgment, correction, and legitimacy boundaries. The file audits major recent alignment directions: AI for flourishing, the Flourishing AI Benchmark, flourishing-centered design principles, human authenticity under AI, comprehensive AI alignment surveys, and provably safe systems. It classifies benchmarks, proofs, evaluations, and safety protocols as high-value candidate readouts. Their value is real, yet their standing remains conditional. Scores, formal proofs, ethical principles, and model behavior do not independently grant civilizational legitimacy. The central verdict is that safety and flourishing must enter the same real-world settlement surface. Negative Alignment prevents collapse; Positive Alignment opens ascent. Reliability belongs neither to safety rhetoric, nor flourishing rhetoric, nor benchmark scores, nor formal proofs. Reliability belongs to continuous settlement: action, cost, feedback, residual accounting, long-term validation, and boundary closure.
