AEON: An Enterprise Control Plane Architecture for the Agentic Era
Abstract
Authors note: This paper's title page lists JD Longmire as sole author. Per ADR-EA-0008, the AI-centric Digital Ecosystem (AIDE) corpus is jointly authored by JD Longmire and Micah Longmire; this deposit's metadata reflects that corpus-level identity. The on-paper artifact attribution is preserved as published. This paper specifies AEON (AI Enterprise Orchestration Nexus) as the enterprise control plane architecture for the agentic era. AEON is the architectural layer that orchestrates capability composition across the enterprise's subdomains, owns the identity and authority fabric that flows across them, captures evidence at enterprise scope, decomposes policy from enterprise scope into subdomain-specific enforcement, manages the capability lifecycle, and provides the meta-orchestration runtime that coordinates the enterprise's operational picture as an integrated system rather than as a collection of silos. The architectural posture is that AEON is Enterprise IT-developed and sustained institutional infrastructure, not a vendor product. The paper specifies six service planes (identity, authority, evidence, integration, capability composition, orchestration runtime), multi-classification deployment, a phased adoption path, and the minimal coherent subset for initial standup.
