Abstract

English Geocentric ecliptic longitude is used as a unified coordinate axis for all celestial bodies in horoscopes and ephemerides. However, the apparent motions of the Sun, planets, and Moon along this shared axis each arise from fundamentally different physical phenomena. This paper classifies and formalizes the three distinct physical events embedded in geocentric ecliptic coordinates: (1) the projection of Earth’s orbital motion (Sun), (2) two-body relative motion (planets), and (3) geocentric orbital motion (Moon). We show that the asymmetry of retrograde motion follows naturally from this classification, and that the empirical astrological rule “the Sun and Moon never retrograde” is both mechanically explainable and numerically verifiable. We further report on the implementation of the Planetary Lane View in Hesperis Ephemeris, which uses this classification as its theoretical design rationale, and present a hypothetical proposal for a “physically honest horoscope” that separateseach physical event into its appropriate reference frame.
