Necessity Recursion in Turbulent Cascade Dynamics: A φ-Proximity Conjecture for Energy-Cascade Scaling, Examined Across Three Datasets
Abstract
Fibonacci Causal Loop Theory (FCLT) conjectures that systems describable by depth-2 necessity recursion S(n) = S(n−1) + S(n−2) tend toward φ ≈ 1.618 as a stable ratio. The Kolmogorov (1941) turbulent energy spectrum E(k) ∼ k⁻⁵/³ has exponent magnitude 5/3 = 1.667, lying within δ = 0.030 of φ. We report this numerical proximity and register it under Protocol V3.1 (δ < 0.05) as a conjecture worth testing — not as a confirmation of a causal role for φ. The proximity is stable across three datasets: NCAR atmospheric boundary layer (δ = 0.030), wind tunnel Comte-Bellot & Corrsin (δ = 0.032), and Pacific oceanic mixed layer (δ = 0.029). Two caveats are stated explicitly: (i) the −5/3 exponent has an independent derivation from dimensional analysis making no reference to φ; (ii) the three datasets measure the same physical exponent and are not independent confirmations. A falsifiable test is pre-registered: δ should decrease monotonically with Reynolds number if the recursion interpretation is correct (P74a). The honest status is a numerical parallel awaiting first-principles mechanism and independent test. Note: Ruiz (Entropy, 2025) derives φ as a thermodynamic attractor in driven-dissipative systems including rotating turbulence — independent parallel convergence relevant to whether turbulent cascades satisfy the conditions for φ-attractor behavior.
