Abstract

--- English Astrological computations — house systems, aspects, Arabic lots, progressions, and ayanamshas — have long depended on Swiss Ephemeris for implementation. The root cause is not computational complexity but the absence of an independent mathematical formula reference. The author's prior paper "The Trap of Mathematical Forced Convergence and Licensing" (Shiga 2026) established the structural problems of Swiss Ephemeris dependency, but left open the question: "What should independent implementers reference instead?" This paper is a direct answer to that question. The claim of this paper is not the invention of new mathematics. The spherical trigonometric formulas and geometric definitions used here are all well-known. The contribution lies in systematically collecting and publishing them as a usable mathematical formula reference for astrological computation — a body of work that did not previously exist as a standalone, independently verifiable document. The planetary position layer (astronomical computation) is delegated to Meeus / JPL, as it requires physical observation data. This paper targets three layers: the geometric layer (house systems, coordinate transforms) derivable entirely from spherical trigonometry and vector cross products; the arithmetic layer (aspects, Arabic lots, progressions) requiring only modular arithmetic; and the auxiliary layer (ayanamsha) as a linear extrapolation of precession with a single observed coefficient. The domain validity of each house system (critical latitudes, arccos undefined conditions) is mathematically formalized, and numerical implementation pitfalls are documented.
