LitModDyn: Quantifying dynamic topography induced by slab–mantle interaction
Abstract
LitModDyn is an open-source Python-based tool developed to quantify mantle-flow-induced dynamic topography from thermodynamically constrained lithosphere-mantle models. The software is designed to work with outputs from the geophysical–petrological modelling framework (LitMod2D_2.0), enabling the integration of density, temperature, composition, and seismic structure into a mechanically consistent mantle-flow calculation. The software solves the incompressible Stokes equations using a finite-difference approach combined with marker-in-cell techniques to simulate mantle flow driven by density anomalies derived from thermodynamic modelling. The software incorporates rheological layering of the crust, lithospheric mantle, and sublithospheric mantle, allowing users to evaluate the influence of lithospheric structure and mantle dynamics on surface deformation.
