Abstract

Version 2 (2026-08-04). Revised to the NLL Universal Paper Format v6. The original text is retained in full; nothing has been deleted. Corrections appear as marked blocks placed at the section that carries the claim, and each one states what the paper said, what the data show, the corrected claim, why it happened, and what still stands. This version withdraws the necessity claim pending a matched-substrate re-run.BCM_OFF is a fixed threshold of 0.18 — exactly P01's winning configuration, where it achieved 99.7% FRR and 12/12 — yet here it recovers 0/12 at every cycle, because the substrate was re-parameterised between papers from 339 cells to ~163 and radius 14 to 20. The baseline was moved into a regime where it cannot succeed. The pre-registered falsifier, the honest 53.8% FRR ceiling at 90% severance, and the correct BCM (1982) lineage all stand; the recovery staircase is disclosed as arithmetically forced by a descending threshold over a fixed field distribution. Everything below this line is the original description from version 1. It is retained unchanged for the record. Where it conflicts with the corrections above, the corrections stand. Two framings it repeats have since been withdrawn in full — the Bhaya Quiescence Law and the Buddhi S-Curve. Both are addressed in Maya-Meta P1, now superseded, and in the self-audit of Maya-Meta P2. Maya-Morphe P6: Tapas presents the first computational model of morphogenetic metaplasticity — a tissue-repair system that learns from being wounded. A field of voltage-bearing cells that regrows a severed lizard tail is given a memory of injury modelled on the Bienenstock–Cooper–Munro (BCM) rule: after each wound the field endures, the revival threshold a dead cell must sense before committing to recovery descends a little further, in proportion to the accumulated alarm (Bhaya) the wound provoked. Across five sequential identical wounds, with the BCM memory active, the number of sequences achieving full recovery climbs monotonically — 0, 0, 3, 6, then 9 of 12 — while an otherwise identical control with a fixed threshold recovers nothing at any cycle. Recovery is a threshold-crossing staircase: as the bar of hesitation drops from 0.18 toward 0.09, cells stranded just below it are progressively brought back. The single free parameter (BCM_AMPLIFIER = 900) sets only the speed of descent; the shape of the staircase is determined by the wound geometry and the substrate, and cannot be computed without running the network — free, not circular, per the Maya-Meta P2 criterion. The paper reports its honest limit without softening: the largest wound — roughly 90% of the tail severed — never heals at any cycle, because its most distal cells lie beyond the voltage field's reach, where no lowering of the threshold can manufacture a signal across a physical gap. Endurance lowers the threshold of hesitation; it cannot reach what the geometry forbids. From 180 simulations (3 conditions × 4 wound sizes × 3 seeds × 5 cycles). The name follows Tapas (तपस्), the principle that strength is forged through repeated, willingly-endured hardship. P6: Tapas is the sixth paper in the Maya-Morphe Series from Nexus Learning Labs, Bengaluru, India. Series: Part of the Maya-Morphe Series — morphogenetic neural networks for biological wound repair simulation. The Bhaya Quiescence Property applies in modified form: dynamic-topology substrates show elevated β during active wound repair (≈4.8%, the acute regime) — a reproducible property within Antahkarana-governed architectures, not a universal law (per Maya-Meta P2).
