Abstract

This dataset provides high-resolution micro-computed tomography (µCT) image stacks, a tissue segmentation, and a reconstructed 3D surface model of a single right rabbit cervical vagus nerve, spanning the anatomical region from the nodose ganglion to the superior cardiac branch. A right rabbit vagus nerve was collected post mortem, fixed, and contrast-stained with Lugol's iodine for µCT imaging to characterize its microanatomical and fascicular organization. The data support reconstruction of the nerve's architecture and the development of image-based, anatomically informed computational models of extracellular nerve stimulation for optimizing the selectivity of vagus nerve stimulation. The rabbit cervical vagus is monofascicular, so the segmentation is binary, nerve (foreground) versus background; there are no separate epineurium/endoneurium compartments. Masks are provided per slice, aligned 1:1 with the image stack. Contents (2701 files, approximately 740 MB; formats .tiff, .dcm, .stl), organized in the SPARC SDS layout: source/ — raw µCT image stack (1350 16-bit TIFF images). derivative/ — nerve-versus-background segmentation masks (1350 DICOM images) and a reconstructed 3D surface model (nerve.stl). dataset_description.xlsx, manifest.xlsx, submission.xlsx — SPARC SDS metadata.
