Research Dataset: Schutzian Phenomenological Analysis of Civic Identity Formation in Pesantren Families, West Java
Abstract
This dataset supports a qualitative study examining civic identity formation among pesantren families in West Java, Indonesia, using Alfred Schütz's phenomenological framework. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews (2 sessions per family) with 10 anonymized family units (F-01–F-10) from three pesantren: PP Al-Hikamussalafiyah Cipulus, PP Riyadhul Mutaalimin Cireok, and PP Al Muhajirin Pusat Purwakarta. The dataset comprises five files: (1) anonymized participant profiles with demographic and contextual information; (2) bilingual semi-structured interview guide (English/Bahasa Indonesia) organized by Schutzian concepts (Lifeworld, Typification, Relevance, Because-motive, In-order-to motive); (3) codebook with 18 codes mapped to Schutzian categories; (4) cross-family typification analysis matrix; and (5) relevance and motivational structure matrix. Key theoretical constructs include: civic virtue typification (hubbul wathan minal iman, tawasuth, tabayyun), motivational relevance structures, kiai authority as lifeworld anchor, and digital civic engagement. Ethics approval: RC-UNIS-2025. All identifying information has been removed; family codes (F-01–F-10) are used throughout.
