Layered Protocol Cosmology (LPC): Spacetime as an Information Stabilization Protocol and a Research Framework for Emergent Gravity, Open Systems, and Higher-Dimensional Implementation / 層状プロトコル宇宙論(Layered Protocol Cosmology; LPC): 情報安定化プロトコルとしての時空と、創発重力・開放系・高次元実装に向けた研究構想
Abstract
[English Abstract] This paper is an overview and concept paper presenting the complete picture of Layered Protocol Cosmology (LPC). The central hypothesis of LPC is to treat spacetime not as a passive background, but as a rule system—an "information stabilization protocol"—that maintains, updates, and stabilizes physical information states across multiple descriptive layers. This paper explicitly distinguishes between microscopic states, coarse-grained effective degrees of freedom, and macroscopic spacetime, establishing their connection as the primary subject of research. Furthermore, it organizes a comprehensive research program encompassing the possibility of treating four-dimensional spacetime as an open system embedded in a higher-dimensional bulk, complex information fields, information-dependent effective gravitational coupling, curvature-dependent brane-bulk exchange, the black hole information problem, and verification pathways including gravitational wave ringdown. The four-dimensional complex scalar field model, five-dimensional bulk configuration, Robin-type boundary conditions, open-system equations, and ringdown corrections presented herein are not derived results from a completed microscopic theory. Rather, they are respectively classified as candidate effective models, candidate microscopic implementations, phenomenological ansatzes, or observational templates. In particular, the non-minimal coupling $F(I)R$ is not a proof that geometry has emerged from information; rather, it is a candidate scalar-tensor implementation demonstrating the possibility that information states are reflected in the effective gravitational coupling. Additionally, the four-dimensional Noether current is not quantum information or entropy per se, but is interpreted as a proxy variable for information transport in LPC. In a separate companion technical paper, a limited subset of the LPC framework is examined through a phenomenological mapping of a real scalar effective density $\Phi(x)$ to a Brans-Dicke-type theory and an axiom of logarithmic information granularity. The complex field $I$, the five-dimensional bulk, and the open-system mechanisms in this paper are neither derived from that companion paper nor identified as the same fundamental fields. The coarse-graining mapping or variable dictionary connecting the two remains a challenge to be constructed in future work. The purpose of this paper is not to declare LPC as a completed theory of quantum gravity, but to translate an original central hypothesis into a verifiable research program accompanied by mathematical implementation candidates, falsifiability, unresolved problems, and a phased research process.
