Abstract

An accessible, experiential companion to the Ibis Horizons participatory-perception framework (part of a five-piece series, 2026). This piece introduces, in plain language, the everyday experience behind the framework: why the same person perceives clearly on one day and struggles the next. It distinguishes two modes of intelligence — an evaluating mode and a coherent mode — and argues that how much we can perceive and hold is not a fixed trait but rises and falls with the state of the nervous system. Clarity, on this account, is not forced but allowed: something the system permits when the conditions for it are met. The piece builds toward the framework's central claim — that reality is always available, and what varies is our openness to recognize it — and asks what it would mean to cultivate the conditions under which more of what is already here becomes perceptible.
