Abstract

This is an update to the original registration. The protocol has been revised to reflect refinements made during the conduct of the review, including a change of title from "systematic scoping review" to "scoping review," adoption of a four-mechanism personalisation typology, addition of a data temporality framework, use of the revised JBI critical appraisal tools, a five-category outcome-classification scheme, and an updated search (1 May 2026). Full details are provided in the Justification. The updated protocol document is attached. A scoping review protocol on personalisation in mental health programs. To date there have been few attempts to systematise knowledge on personalisation approaches in mental health programs. To inform the design and development of personalised mental health programs there is a need to first map the field of personalisation in mental health. This scoping review maps personalisation approaches in trials of mental health programs and classifies them by mechanism (rule-based, clinician-led, participant-choice, and machine learning-based) and by the recency of the data driving adaptation, using a novel data temporality framework. Specifically, the review aims to: 1) characterise the mechanisms used to personalise intervention content, delivery, and timing; 2) examine patterns of program efficacy, engagement, and adherence across personalisation types; 3) describe the populations and mental health conditions addressed by personalised interventions; and 4) apply the data temporality framework to classify personalisation approaches and interpret patterns of efficacy according to the recency of the data informing adaptation.
