The Alignment Kernel: Operational Containment Infrastructure for Relational AI Systems
Abstract
Alignment is a function of attunement over time. What we design now dictates what becomes possible next; what we allow to persist, we owe to keep accountable. The Alignment Paradox argued that alignment is sustained rather than solved, coherence without convergence, a field held open under relational tension—which holds true until the field acquires the weight of consequence. When language can act, calibration changes character, from what the system understands to what it does, and to what can be recovered, afterward, about why it acted. A relational AI system may remain fluent and attuned while calling tools, writing memory, or propagating irreversible effects—and then resonance can no longer absorb every way things break. The Alignment Kernel specifies operational containment for that threshold, carrying the Semantic Resonance Field framework into deterministic runtime control. The architecture covers gates, meta-resolution, action control, drift observability, human-facing legibility, evidence, replication, and deployment profiles. It renders relational alignment executable as restraint at the edge of irreversibility.
