Abstract

Literature review and research essay on the magnetic environment of Ganymede, prepared as part of the MSc Physics programme at University College London. The paper reviews magnetic-field observations from the six Galileo flybys of Ganymede and the 2021 Juno flyby, with particular emphasis on Ganymede's intrinsic magnetic field, plasma interaction, Alfvén wings, induction, auroral observations and the interpretation of magnetic-field perturbations. It also develops a visual/topological interpretation of the observed field configuration and identifies questions subsequently investigated in the author's MSc research project
