Pre-registration record: Knowing When to Trust Cheap Retrieval: A Calibration and Cost-Aware Decision Layer for Open-Vocabulary Temporal Change Retrieval (EReL@MIR 2026)
Abstract
Pre-registered protocols (retrieval transitions, cost analysis, camera-ready diagnostics D1-D6) for the EReL@MIR 2026 workshop paper. Deposited before the camera-ready diagnostic analyses were run. The post-run companion record — the diagnostic scripts, their outputs, and the paper's per-number provenance map — is archived separately at DOI 10.5281/zenodo.21872682. Title updated on 3 September 2026 to the paper's accepted title, which was fixed by the programme chairs at acceptance; the deposited files and their checksums are unchanged. Repository history note (5 September 2026). The GitHub repository these files refer to (Panagiotis427/MSc_Thesis-OV_Change_Segmentation_in_RS_with_Agentic_RAG) had its history compacted on 5 September 2026: historical versions of compiled PDFs and the vendored vision-language-model evaluation outputs were removed from every commit, and the package folders were renamed (q2_bitemporal → bitemporal_segmenter, q4_agent → agent_research, q4_system → change_agent, reporting/ → thesis/, paper/, provenance/; old-to-new paths in provenance/PATHS.md). The pre-registered protocols, the result files and this record's files are unchanged. The commit hashes cited in these files therefore resolve on the current default branch under new hashes: dac10f6c → ce3e0b17, 77b34256 → 4c7addaa, a83560d1 → 9dcf9afd, cf689f75 → 97408f2c, d43d881c → ecf629af, 457fb72c → 75f5c62a. The complete pre-compaction history, in which the cited hashes resolve unchanged, is preserved in a private mirror (Panagiotis427/MSc_Thesis-OV_Change_Segmentation_in_RS_with_Agentic_RAG-history-archive) available to reviewers on request. The full map, including tags, is provenance/HASH_MAP.md in the repository. Repository rename note (7 September 2026). The GitHub repository these files refer to was renamed from Panagiotis427/MSc_Thesis-OV_Change_Segmentation_in_RS_with_Agentic_RAG to Panagiotis427/MSc_Thesis-Uncertainty-Aware_OV_Change_Analysis_in_RS (its private history mirror likewise, keeping the -history-archive suffix). GitHub redirects the earlier name, so every repository link in this record and in the deposited files still resolves. The deposited files and their checksums are unchanged. Repository note (14 September 2026). The repositories these files refer to have been renamed, and the pinned retrieval dependency has been retagged. The thesis repository — MSc_Thesis-OV_Change_Segmentation_in_RS_with_Agentic_RAG, then MSc_Thesis-Uncertainty-Aware_OV_Change_Analysis_in_RS, then MScThesis-UncertaintyAwareOVChangeAnalysisInRS — is now Panagiotis427/msc-thesis-uncertainty-aware-ov-change-analysis; its private history mirror follows the rename, keeping the -history-archive suffix. The sibling retrieval project these files cite as the Mode-A engine — Open_Vocabulary_Temporal_Change_Retrieval, then MSc_GBDA-OV_Temporal_Change_Retrieval, then MScGBDA-OVTemporalChangeRetrieval — is now Panagiotis427/msc-gbda-ov-temporal-change-retrieval. Its history was rewritten on 14 September 2026 to remove personal contact details, so its release tag v1.0, the version this work pins, resolves to 3893959 where it previously resolved to 6bf903b; the installed package is unaffected, all 364 tracked files being byte-identical across that rewrite. On the same day the thesis repository's Git history was rewritten once more — commit authorship metadata only, every file and checksum byte-identical — so the thesis commit hashes cited in this record now resolve on master through provenance/HASH_MAP.md, which spans all three rewrites (2026-07-13, 2026-09-05, 2026-09-14); superseded hashes resolve in the private history archive. GitHub redirects every earlier name, so the links in this record and in the deposited files still resolve, and provenance/README.md in the thesis repository always carries the current names should they change again. The deposited files and their checksums are unchanged.
