The Emotional Budgeting Workbook 2.0: Managing Responsibility and Strengthening Relationships
Abstract
The Emotional Budgeting Workbook 2.0: Managing Responsibility and Strengthening Relationships is a research-grounded cognitive organization and emotional-regulation workbook developed by Paul Sambataro, Ph.D., founder of the American Academy of Primary Care Psychologists (AAPCP) and the Houston Behavioral Health Institute (HBHI). Designed for youth ages 8-16, their families, adults, educators, and behavioral health professionals, with full applicability to adult clinical populations. The workbook treats emotional experience as cognitive input requiring structure applied before reactive interpretation consolidates into narrative. Drawing on LeDoux (2000), Gross (1998), Lieberman et al. (2007), Burklund et al. (2014), Sweller (1988, 2011), and Baddeley (2012), it introduces the Sambataro Reappraisal Method (SRM) -- a facts-first, pre-narrative framework. The structural distinction: CBT rewrites the narrative; EBW 2.0 organizes the data before the narrative forms. Organized across six parts and eleven chapters, the workbook applies the line-item framework across four relational tiers -- Family, Friends, Acquaintances, and Community. Implementation contexts include outpatient behavioral health, school-based (IEP/SEL) settings, primary care integration, and home-based family use. EBW 2.0 is the translational center of a three-publication system published by AAPCP Press, alongside Brain Evolution and Mental Health: A New Scientific Framework and The Narrative Cognitive Development Manual, 2nd Edition (ISBN 979-8-218-64572-4). Note: EBW 2.0 is an educational and research-informed skills resource. It is not a substitute for individualized psychological, psychiatric, medical, legal, or other professional services.
