Intellectual Genealogy and Research Development Statement
Abstract
This research development statement documents the intellectual genealogy, architectural development, and academic formalization of the Institutional Authority Dynamics research enterprise. The statement traces the program from an originating practical problem of Black institutional durability and continuity through a trust-based governance solution and the subsequent development of BlackGuard OS as a multilevel governance architecture. Beginning in January 2026, the underlying governance mechanisms were systematically translated into academically bounded concepts, models, frameworks, terminology, and manuscripts. The statement identifies two important points of scholarly grounding during that translation. Political scientist Keesha Middlemass provided an early disciplinary identification of the emerging work as Black politics, while the multilevel-governance scholarship of Gary Marks and Liesbet Hooghe supplied established theoretical language for governance across interacting institutional levels. The translation ultimately produced five substantive theoretical frameworks—Narrative Legitimacy, the Governance Drift Curve (GDC), the Governance Recovery Constraint Model (GRCM), the Institutional Layer Separation Principle (ILSP), and Institutional Boundary Enforcement (IBE)—with Institutional Authority and Governance Dynamics (IAGD) serving as their integrating theoretical architecture. The document also describes the broader academic asset base of the research enterprise, including manuscripts in journal publication processes, a controlled conceptual vocabulary and boundary conditions, an application protocol and analyst manual, public-policy interventions, public scholarship, and controlled applications to live institutional cases. It distinguishes AI-assisted research acceleration from the intellectual genesis and governance of the research and preserves the boundary between BlackGuard as a developmental precursor and Institutional Authority Dynamics as an independently governed academic enterprise. The statement concludes by identifying independent application, operationalization, measurement, comparative research, empirical testing, falsification, validation, and refinement as major components of the enterprise's future empirical and doctoral development.
