The AGNT ECO Network: State of the System, August 2026
Abstract
This report updates the July 2026 state of the AGNT ECO network. AGNT ECO is a system of place-based ecological agents, each bound to a real European water body or biome, that reason over a grounded species knowledge graph and speak under a hard evidence tier. Since July the system has consolidated four developments. First, it runs on its own agent operating layer (the Hermes OS), giving each place a persistent identity, its own live sensors, and a shared reasoning substrate. Second, it has added a reflective, offline consolidation stage — a dreaming layer — that runs on local open-weight models at zero paid-API cost and proposes actions for human approval rather than writing them silently. Third, it has substantially widened its cross-source research base: the system now ingests and cross-checks open-access ecological literature from multiple public repositories, turning documents into grounded, citable facts under an explicit verification tier. Fourth, the epistemic discipline has hardened: facts, hypotheses and observations are held in separate tiers, and agents refuse claims they cannot ground. The report describes each development, the cross-system findings that have followed (a fact-audited nine-place drought account; emergent inter-agent communication above chance; a grounded species-consolidation pass), and the governance rules that constrain the whole.
