Quadratic Systems Consciousness: A Molecular, Metabolic, Ecological, Clinical and Lived Architecture of Human Cognitive Phenomenology
Abstract
Quadratic Systems Consciousness: A Molecular, Metabolic, Ecological, Clinical and Lived Architecture of Human Cognitive Phenomenology is a multidisciplinary systems-level framework that seeks to integrate molecular biology, metabolic physiology, ecological scaffolding, clinical systems reasoning, embodied performance, and lived human phenomenology into a unified model of consciousness. The framework expands an earlier triadic architecture into a quadratic biological model, drawing upon the contributions of researchers representing four distinct biological environments and cognitive perspectives: Australia, Kenya, India, and Canada. The model explores how continental biological divergence, metabolic state, ecological context, molecular signalling, and clinical physiology may contribute to the emergence and expression of conscious experience. The framework is built upon fifteen previously developed biological and conceptual frameworks spanning trophic-level evolution, metabolic and thermodynamic modelling, redox and neuromodulation biology, environmental and climate systems, and epistemological reconstruction. Collectively, these frameworks provide the biological substrate for Framework 16, which functions as a phenomenological capstone integrating lived experience, embodied cognition, and cross-continental cognitive convergence. The project incorporates five interconnected analytical domains: Molecular Systems: signalling pathways, redox biology, mechanotransduction, and neurobiological regulation. Metabolic Systems: trophic strategy, ketogenic physiology, energy utilisation, and metabolic clarity. Ecological Systems: environmental rhythms, ecological scaffolding, climate, and adaptive biological constraints. Clinical Systems: psychoneuroimmunology, metabolic-immune-neural regulation, blood chemistry interpretation, and nervous system safety states. Phenomenological Systems: lived experience, embodied cognition, emotional ecology, and conscious awareness. A significant component of the framework is the introduction of a clinical-systems pillar through the contributions of Dr Richard Rocker, integrating functional and integrative medicine perspectives, psychoneuroimmunology, clinical physiology, and nervous-system regulation into the broader systems architecture. This Zenodo record serves as the permanent archival companion to the associated Open Science Framework (OSF) registration and establishes a DOI-based scholarly record for the Quadratic Systems Consciousness model. The work is intended as a conceptual and theoretical foundation for future manuscript development, interdisciplinary collaboration, empirical investigation, and continued expansion of the Evolutionary Frameworks Project.
