Abstract

Chronic paediatric cough may often have psychogenic origins when organic causes are excluded. This report describes the case of a 13-year-old boy with a persistent, metallic, diurnal cough that lasted for one year and was unresponsive to treatments for asthma and GERD. Extensive imaging and functional tests (CT angiography, pH-impedance) were negative. The presence of stereotyped symptoms and orofacial tics led to a neuropsychiatric diagnosis of anxiety-related psychogenic cough. The case highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in managing atypical chronic cough.
