Cat. 5 Montagne Sainte-Victoire, c. 1885
Abstract
An examination of three key aspects of Cezanne’s Montagne Sainte-Victoire (The Arc Valley) and the two related paintings: the framing device of the pine trees; the structure and distribution of elements, especially as related to works by Poussin; and the inclusion of the contemporary viaduct in an otherwise timeless scene.
