Abstract

Bicycles and scooters are popular means of transportation and entertainment among children, and related injuries have been increasing in recent years. In this study, epidemiology, injury mechanisms and treatment modalities of pediatric fractures due to bicycle and scooter accidents are discussed. Lit-erature reviews show that children are more susceptible to such injuries due to skeletal development. Upper extremity fractures are among the most common traumas and head and abdominal injuries can also have serious consequences. Precautions such as helmet use, protective equipment and safe riding trainings play a critical role in the prevention of such injuries. This study provides a comprehensive review of the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of pediatric bicycle and scooter related fractures.
