OSTEOGENESIS IMPERFECTA AND FRACTURE MANAGEMENT
Abstract
Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) is a hereditary musculoskeletal disorder characterized by reduced bone density and fragile bone formation, often resulting in multiple fractures and skeletal deformities. It ex-hibits genetic and phenotypic heterogeneity, and its clinical severity ranges widely. The classification proposed by Sillence remains widely used, categorizing OI into four main types based on severity and clinical presentation. Type I is the mildest form, while Type II is often lethal in the perinatal period. Types III and IV show increasing levels of skeletal fragility and deformities. Type V, identified in 2000, represents a distinct variant with specific features such as hyperplastic callus development and radial head dislocation. Other rare types are classified based on genetic and clinical variations.
