Abstract

This chapter focuses on the diagnosis and assessment of bone fractures resulting from child abuse. While most pediatric fractures result from accidental trauma, certain features strongly suggest non-ac-cidental injury. These include metaphyseal corner fractures, posterior rib fractures, and multiple frac-tures in various stages of healing, particularly in infants under one year of age. Such injuries often require forceful mechanisms inconsistent with the child’s developmental capacity.
