Abstract

There are many procedures for aesthetic or therapeutic reduction mammaplasty. The Wise pattern - lateral pedicle technique has been developed and improved through the years to serve the aims of preserving vasculature and innervation and therefore tissue viability sensation and lactation. In onco-plastic procedures it is best suited for tumors located in the upper or lateral quadrants depending on the resection plan. The lateral pedicle has also been described as superolateral due to its position and ankle when drawing the makings in larger breasts. The technique is appropriate when surgery involves significant volume reduction in both aesthetic or oncoplastic procedures. Despite satisfactory results and low rate of major complications it is not widely used in everyday practice.
